Epiphany in Cacophony

I was alone in my room thinking about the uncertain future and suddenly I came across this thought experiment.

When you are completely alone and feeling sad or bogged down then you are surely not living in a good company. And in solitude, your mind is the only companion you've got. A good parent will always advice his kid not to mingle with the bad company. And as a parental figure of my entire self, I will have to change my mind which is spreading negativity in every particle of my body.

Then I realized, "How could I feel negative when every part of my body is feed by B+ve."

I remembered the transcendental words of Vikram Sarabhai, “He who can listen to music in the midst of noise can achieve great things.”

No offence, please!!

I must say, this elections season is most exiting since last 2 elections. Use of social media increased, volunteer’s of each party coming up with different strategies to get people’s attention whether it is from Facebook, twitter or YouTube.

But what I found most interesting is increased use of this phrase- No offence, please! Supporters of different parties posting anti-news on each other’s facebook profile writing this phrase. (Namo supports posting Kejri's ‘Bahot hi Krantikari’ video on AAPtard’s profile and AAP supporters posting unfinished interview of Namo with Karan Thapar or things like that) and giving a caption to it, no offence please.

Are boss, if your clear intention is to offend someone or his beliefs then why are you trying to be sophisticated by writing this phrase, no offence.

Why we use exactly opposite phrases to the emotions? In Hindi, when you are going to tell something bad news, you first ask that person- ‘promise me ki tum bura nahi manoge.’

Tell me, how someone could tell you how he will not feel bad even before listening to the story. Ironic huh! Maybe you are trying to make his mind to hear bad thing. And if his face become fill with shadow of grief after hearing your story, then you tell him that I already ask you to not fell bad.

Do you thing when he gives permission, he actually meant it? Or he is just eager to hear your damn story.

Do you actually think to change the game by saying these silly words? If yes, then no offence but you'r a stupid asshole.;-)

Do you know what is the sexiest and ugliest thing in the world is?

It is the seductive and destructive power of neatly placed words. It has heavenly and dreadful powers of being sexy and ugly at the same time.  

It can change minds, souls, and people. It can spread love, blossom the atmosphere of warmth, and cherish the likelihood. It can create war, hate among communities, envy and wrath among people.

Look what Mark Antony is saying. Look at the eyes of the crowd. How color of their eyes changing from white to red while listening to his speech.

Look carefully, what Alexander is addressing to his disheartened army. The army who was just talking about rebellion against him is now calm. They were angry, even now they are angry, but reason has been changing. Now they are ready to fight immortal.

Look at the Hitler; he is giving a speech in Germany. I am telling you, I didn't understand a single word from his speech. But that enthusiasm  made a goose bumps on my hands. Someone just told me that he talked something about winning the world. I know this is disastrous but I still want to believe in what he just said.

I am listening to the speech of Winston Churchill on radio. All my Englishman wants to end this war and surrender. But see, what magic is happening. They now want to fight till the last man lives on the land Of England.

Look, Abraham Lincoln is announcing the emancipation Proclamation. I can see the confidence and freedom in the eyes of my slave negro brothers.

Look, what Barack Obama is saying in presidential campaign. I can clearly see hope in eyes of people.

Look at the Charlie Chaplin, he is not even speaking, he is showing some expressions. But I don’t know why I am getting attracted towards him? I am the slave of the words, but he is not even speaking. Why I am feeling that the world’s most beautiful words coming out from his expressions.

I am going to catch these words. Will you come with me? I will put them in world’s safe locker and hide them in the deep ocean of books to hand over to future generations.

I am a true believer of God, but what just Mark Twain said, changing my beliefs. Am I atheist now? I don’t know. I really don’t know.

I like to hear war history, stories of the great warriors, their Hugh empires, their beautiful queens, astonishing palaces and uncountable wealth. But oh God! Suddenly I lost my all feelings about these materialistic things. Is this a impact of Gautam Buddha’s book I read yesterday night?  Maybe.  Maybe not.  

Please someone come and release me and my brothers from prison of the words. The more I want to come out of it, the more and more it is seducing me to stay. I am the victim of this seduction. I am telling you stay away from it. It will swallow you too.

After all the experiments on my life now I am learning what is sexy and what is ugly. I am realizing the seductive power of neatly placed words and destructive power of neatly placed foul words.

At the end of the day, oh lord, I am asking for only one thing. Give me power to differentiate, virtuous and evil, good and bad, heaven and hell, true and false.

Amen!!

Are we ready for open debate?

I have just seen a video of debate between the candidates contesting Bangalore South loksabha constituency. This debate was organized by Bangalore Political Action Committee (BPAC) - an initiative of citizens aimed at building a better Bangalore and to give an opportunity for the candidates of political parties to highlight their development agenda for the city to an invited audience.

I am extremely glad that they have taken the initiative and all candidates agreed to come together on same platform to discuss their vision. That usually doesn’t happen in India. Our leaders are more interested in commenting on someone’s character (rather than policies) behind the camera. But the people were not come to hear but to make chaos.

Even today, we are not interested in their development agenda, their plans but we are more interested in what language he is speaking, why he is not speaking in mother tongue. Why we are so much aroused when someone says that your community is in danger, your language will vanish in next 50 years but we did not get aroused when we are seeing our pathetic situation with our own eyes. We need to get our priorities right.

Look at the presidential debates, normal senate member’s debates in U.S. Even if they are no better than our leaders on throwing mud on each other’s character but at least people show interest in development policies and maintain a gentle decorum.

It is extremely good that candidates from Bangalore came on same platform. It didn't satisfy the purpose fully but at least they took precedence. Not only M.P.s but Prime ministerial candidates should also come together and discuss their self proclaimed progresses in debate. Even Indira Gandhi had not accepted Atal Bihari Vajpyee’s invitation for debate.

Open debate before election should be done in each and every constituency. Many times supporters, party make hugh bubble of their candidates. These open debates will poof the bubble or will grow bigger. Also more visionary and educated people will have chance.

So the purpose of writing this is, we need to be gentle to hear entirely opposite thoughts to our beliefs. Healthy democracy needs patience. If you have freedom of speech, then your political rivals too have that freedom.

Sad thing is- more than healthy discussions, we love verbal war and controversies. Most T.V. channels show whole day what one speaker told about another and what another one was replied.

Seriously? Grow up media and it is time for us to introspect.

Free to choose

Having physical relationship with opposite gender is so important, then why we have so much romanticized celibacy? If someone who want to make love with same sex is guilty then why not one who don’t want to have sex for his entire life? Isn’t it against the law of nature?

If you are asking them that if your mom-dad were of that type, would you be in this world? But my question is why you are not telling the same thing to the people claiming to be celibate? Instead we worship them. Our Indian society has always worshiped chastity of women and celibacy of men but not the celibacy of women and chastity of men. If your argument is –sex with the same gender is violating nature’s law and if this so called ‘mentality virus’ has spread then how would our future generations form? Same theory applies for the celibates. They too are not contributing to the survival of human race. I am not against celibates but this logic forcing me to give this counter argument. According to me, everyone should free to choose whether they want to be celibates, want to make love with same gender or opposite. 

Why we are not free to choose? Even BJP is opposing this thing. Then tell me why you are worshipping god ‘Ayyapan’? (FYI-Ayyappan is a Hindu deity who is believed to be an incarnation of Dharma Sasta, the offspring of Shiva and Vishnu (in the form of Mohini, his only female avatar)) This is ironic that you are opposing same gender sex but worshipping god who is offspring of same gender sex. (even if Lord Vishnu is in female avatar) Means you don’t have any objection if one of the two is in female attire.

So the next time you are opposing homosexuality, I would request to come up with more logical arguments? Nature’s law, really?

Just Blog!!! – See, think, blog...

“Fill your paper with the breathing of your heart.” – William Wordsworth.

Why there is a need to write a blog? Why should we waste time in writing something? Don’t we are having other important things to do? Most of the time, we see many interesting things happening around us but we don’t give a damn about them. Do you? No. A dark no. 

I have heard a very nice quote about people behavior by George Bernard Shaw. “Two percent of people think, three percent of people think they think and ninety five percent of people would rather die than think.”

When you blog, you actually feel the things, you analyze them, you find reason behind them. Do you think all stories you see or movies you watch are come from the fantasies of writers? No, actually they are taken from day to day life of common people. (Don’t tell me about Sunny Deol or Rajnikanth) Blogging is the great tool to express you. 

Who you are? You are same personality in-between your photo on driving license and your facebook profile picture. I am not talking about your looks but whole personality. What world see you or what you show to the world and what you actually are, there is some (or in many cases ‘Hugh’) gap there. You have opportunity to fill that gap by expressing yourself. 

If you want to write personal things, make a privet blog. If you want to tell something to your loved ones and you can’t tell that thing in front of them, write a blog and make blog visible to specified people. These all functions are provided by blogging sites. And if you want to tell something interesting or things you deeply feel about to all people out there, write a blog. You can see 10 years later that how you changed during course of time. How your thinking is shaped by the external factor or introspection. 

You read newspaper, magazines; watch movies, sport, I don’t think you agree with all the things you see or do. If you feel, let those feelings shape on your life canvas. If you are writing technical, social or other type of blog, your knowledge in that field increases multiple times as you read, search, stay updated about that field. 

When I find some interesting topic to blog, I search about that topic on Google and many times I find many other interesting topic or websites. Google is incredible and you got power to know about anything within a minute by using your mobile phone or laptop. Then why we are wasting most of our time on face book? Blogging has other benefits too, like if someone has same problems as yours, and he is reader of your blog, you are actually inspiring him and it is great feeling that someone has inspired because of you.

Blogging needs high dedication, regularity. Many of my friends who started to blog, they did it for 3-4 months and left it. Don’t do that thing. Be regular, be patient to be noticed by the millions of viewers on internet, stay calm and write blog. Remember one thing, at the end of the day design, theme all these things doesn’t matter. What matters is your content. If you are writing publicly and want to get noticed and want regular followers to your blog, emphasize on your content, because those who are visiting, they are not wasting their time to see only beauty of your blog but what they want is a good, thought provoking content. So do some work on that. 

If you want to get started, I would suggest making your blog on blogger, wordpress or tumblr. You will need initial investment of Rs.0 as they are all free and have very nice features. So let’s get started. I don’t need to tell you how to make that thing possible as you are all smart folks. At any point you stuck, ask ‘Uncle Google.’ 

Most of us are not comfortable with writing in English. With the help of Google IEM, write in any language you are comfortable with.

White lie or misleading truth?

What is right, what is morally correct? A lie or a misleading truth? To understand this, I am taking two examples.

Paula Jones brought a sexual harassment lawsuit against Bill Clinton while he was president. During the deposition for the Jones lawsuit, which was held at the White House, Clinton denied having sexual relationship with Monika Lewinsky– a denial that became the basis for the Lewinsky Scandal and the president's subsequent impeachment charge of perjury. 

He told that he did not have sexual relationship with Miss. Lewinsky but what American people understood was, he had not sex with her, and even representative of Carolina asked defence lawyer the same question. In defence argument, lawyer said that you are misinterpreted the statement of Mr. Clinton. He never said that he didn’t have sex with Miss. Lewinsky; he only talked about sexual relationship. (Watch the video) It is good example of carefully worded denial.

He could have told an outrageous lie but to maintain the dignity and moral code he told the misleading truth.

Here is the second example in Indian scenario. Before election, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal said that, he will end up ‘Laal Batti’ culture. What people understood that, their cabinet is not going to take the government vehicles. But after coming to power his cabinet ministers accepted the government vehicles without ‘laal batti’ and when asked about it by media, he told, “Yes, I had told that I will end up laal-batti culture but I never made a comment about not accepting vehicles.” So what would you call to this – a lie or a misleading truth? Actually he has not told any lie, but he put in such a way that people would misunderstood.

From these two examples, misleading truth may give temporary benefit. People do lie thinking other will not find that thing forever. But actually misleading truth is as bad as a lie according to me even if it pays certain homage to moral law and self satisfaction that 'I did speak truth.'

I conclude it by giving mythological example from the great epic Mahabharata.

Well, we all know this story of Guru Dronacharya and Dharmraj Yudhishthir. Battle was getting worse for Pandavas due to multiple aggressive attacks by Dronacharya. Lord Krishna gives solution to Pandvas that if we want Dronacharya to be dead, we have to find his weak point and his weak point was his son Ashwathama. So Krishna told Bhima to kill elephant named Ashwathama in their army during battle and asked Yudhishthir to tell that Ashwathama has killed if asked by Guru Dronacharya. Lord Krishna knew that Guru Dronacharya will surely ask Yudhishthir because he knows he never gonna lie. 

At that time Yudhishthir was in same situation of telling misleading truth. Bhima killed an elephant named 'Ashvatthama'. Then he loudly announced for all to hear, 'Ashvatthama' is killed. Ashvatthama is dead. Drona was stunned with grief. Asvatthama could not have been killed by anyone. He had the blessings of lord Shiva. Not able to believe Bhima, Drona turned to Yudhisthira and asked if that was true. Yudhisthira said, Ashvatthama is killed " Elephant not the Man " he added in a low voice and the last part of the sentence was lost in the loud blowing of the conch of Krishna, Panchajanya. Now, Drona was so full of grief that he put down his arms and with a sword, Dhristadhymna cut off his head. It is said that Yudhisthira’s chariot always, moved four inches above the ground. So strong was his commitment to dharma. He had never spoken a false word till that time. After this act, his chariot came down to earth and he became like any other mortal.

Even our mythology suggesting the same that, even if it is misleading truth, it is not better than a lie.

Justice -What's the right thing to do

Some days ago, I started to watch an interesting Harvard lecture series on Law. In this lectures, Mr. Michael Sandel has come up with the fascinating way to teach philosophy which everyone of us can digest easily, on many interesting issues. Nearly one thousand students pack Harvard’s historic ‘Sanders Theatre’ to hear Michael Sandel’s talk about justice, equality, democracy, and citizenship.

What I found after watching this series that- most of the times our thinking is biased about the things which surrounds us and we make impression of right or wrong without analyzing the other side. But when question has no correct answer there is only one honest response –the grey area between right and wrong.

Let’s take some of the cases which I find interesting.

If you argue, torturing people is wrong, how about torturing a person who is a suspect of planting a bomb which could cause thousands of deaths?  Is torture defensible if it yields valuable information? Or person’s human rights is first priority?

If law has made on stealing things, “Is a parent justified in stealing a drug for a child who needs it to survive if he could not pay?” Should law be different for different situations? And if it is justified then wouldn't people give justifications for every bad act they have done?

If government has policy of redistribution of wealth (means transfer of wealth from rich to poor) by additional taxation from rich people then isn’t it is forced labour? Let’s take an example. Bill Gates is wealthiest person and government asking him to pay 33% tax of his total income to redistribute that money to poor, then government actually asking him to work more and more to attain money he would have attained in first place. Isn't it form of forced labour?  

Is lying morally correct if situation demands even it hurts your dignity?  In many cases, the law can't be neutral on hard moral questions. Engaging rather than avoiding the moral convictions of our fellow citizens may be the best way of seeking a ‘just’ society.

Bullet- Prisoner puzzle

Here I am giving you a puzzle that I once heard from a senior. In an interview, interviewer asked him a puzzle and surprisingly he gave the right answer. At first I was not able to solve this puzzle. See, if you can solve. Don’t see the below answer if you want to solve.

“There is a prison in the middle of a desert. Suppose there are “n” prisoners. There is no fence or any other security measure in the prison. There is a police who is having a gun and it contains only one bullet. He will shoot the last person who would try to escape. How would prisoners escape? Would they able to escape or not? Justify. “

Note: Prisoners have little knowledge of game theory and will think before making any move. They lack unity to run all together or in group. No one wants to sacrifice his life for other.

Harvey saved me!!

Today I had my breadth subject exam – ‘Effective learning techniques of professional development'. Oh wait! Don’t horrify about the course name. It has got only long title but nothing special in it. They should give us at least two numbers to remember such a long name of the course. But why I am telling you this? Because I had a very interesting situation in the exam that I think worth telling to you guys. 

There was a question in the paper that, being a smart entrepreneur how would you resolve the interpersonal conflicts in your organization using the emotional intelligence. And they asked us to give the example we might know. First part of the question was OK, but in the example part I didn’t recall any situation about conflicts in organization in detail with names. I thought for a moment, and what I get is the picture of Harvey Specter and Louis Litt from TV series Suits, fighting with each other.

  

There was no other option and Ma’am has already told us that your paper should be full of creative answers and I would able to get some new things after reading your answers. So I started the example part by how Jessica Pearson handles Harvey and Louis and converts their extreme desire to becoming better than other to grow her law firm. It is best example of how jealousy of one another creates interpersonal conflicts in the organization. Actually Harvey never wants to be better, he is already the great and absolute winner and that and that only thing makes Louis insecure and he envies him. It is the important quality of senior manager to isolate such personalities and get best out of them. Because when personal image is at stake, performance flourishes. That’s what Jessica does. Jessica is biased to Harvey but also knows the potential of Louis and she could not afford to lose him. Harvey has not only winning attitude, but it is in his veins. Harvey’s winning attitude and Louis’s contacts makes her firm better.

Those who didn't watch Suits I should say must watch if you are going to start any series. It is a corporate drama. If you love to watch TV series with best dialogues and perfectionist hero, then it is for you. 4th season I hope will air before April.

Devil's advocate

Problem statement:
Suppose you are driving through a narrow tunnel and a worker falls onto the road in front of you. There is not enough time for you to stop. If you keep straight, you will hit the worker and kill him, but if you swerve left into oncoming traffic, you will collide with the school b and kill at least five children. You hit the worker. 

You are dead somehow and these four people are deciding whether you be sent to hell – an opportunistic businessman, a sociopathic serial murderer, an unscrupulous politician and an aam aadmi.
Here is my story:

A moral side 

Murderer: This man should sent to hell as he murdered a innocent worker and didn’t even think once before doing such cruel, brutal thing.

Businessman: No! No! I beg to differ from you sir, but you are not considering that he didn’t have enough time to think at that moment. He just put the simple logic of ‘one over five’. We are discussing about his fate so it is not right to take such a judgemental decision. Even in the business, we think first about the side where loss would be less, don’t we? So I think this man is not guilty as you are accusing him.

Politician: Gentlemen, I didn’t like that you are discussing about what choices he had. Simple thing is- he had murdered one of the citizens from my constituency and he deserves to rot in hell. If you are not with my opinion and going to allow him in heaven then I will arrange a protest march in front of god’s home. (After all I should speak like I do really care about my citizens.)

Aam admi: Before you proceed respected juries, I would like to hear his side as you are giving opinion without giving him chance to explain.

Me: Thank you sir. As you know that I was driving in a tunnel and suddenly a worker falls on the road. I had only two choices- go straight and kill worker or kill five children. I am not going to tell you that I choose ‘one over five’ as said by one of you juries. I am not going to put a price-tag on a person’s life as it is not my right. Here I am giving a situation and just want to know that what you would have done in that situation. Shall I continue my lords?

Murderer: No! Absolutely no! All my fellow juries, I m surprised by his courage. He has murdered someone and without giving justification he is asking us question. This is ridiculous. He has chosen a working condition man over five children who were not benefiting the society. They are just burden. He killed a man who was working for welfare of all.

Businessman: I would like to hear about his strategy to deal with that situation, similar to removing employees in time of recession. So my vote is ‘yes’.

Politician: I am a leader and leader always stands on the shoulder of voters. So I want to give him a chance. My vote is ‘yes’.

Aam admi: As Voltaire said,”Even if I disagree with what you have to say, but I will defend to death your right to say it.” So my vote is ‘yes’.

Businessman: Gentlemen, here are three votes in his favour. So young man, continue what were you saying-

Me: Thank you so much, my lords. Here is my situation- Imagine you are a doctor. You have five patients waiting whose treatment you have done earlier. All of them are in serious condition and needs one organ in order to survive. First one needs heart, second one needs liver, third one needs brain, forth needs kidney, fifth one needs pancreas. You are expert in organ transplanting. Now a very young and healthy man comes to your hospital to routine check-up. So my question is- what will you do in this situation? You are having two options. Either you check that man and see those five men living miserable life where they are counting their days to hug the deathbed or else you have another option- you could give injection to man to lose his senses and remove all those five organs from him and transplant them to those five men. So I repeat what will your decision in this case?

Murderer: You can fool these people with your evil logic but I am not going to change my decision.

Businessman: I am going to answer this question. I will choose second option as I am giving life to five people instead of one. I stated my ‘one over five’ logic earlier. It is also according to ‘cost-benefit analysis’ theory.

Politician: I am not going to answer this question as it involves murder by me. I have very clean image among people and am not going to malign that for some silly, stupid question. You are sounding like Arnab Goswami. My simple answer is “No comments”. (Why should answer if I have not any benefit, neither politically nor monetarily.)

Aam admi: Young man, you are very smart. You have put us in exact same condition as you were in. I think it is about ‘karma’. In this situation, the healthy person has nothing to do with whether other five persons were going to live or not. If I was a doctor, I would have only check that man as it is my duty as a doctor. I am a doctor not God Vishnu to operate the world.

Me: Now my lords, there is a tie. Two of you answered my question and two of you don’t. So how can I believe that you are able to decide my fate when you are not able to answer my simple question? So my lords, please answer my question and after that whatever decision you would give that will abide to me.

Murderer: I am going for first option but I am not going to explain my side. (Anyway, I choose this because it involves death of five people or even slow death. These people never gonna know that..haha)

Politician: (vote share is greater in first side so why should I waste my vote…After all I am a politician.) With due respect to all juries, I am with first choice but don’t ask me for explanation as media is going to make hype of this issue.

Aam admi: (After discussing with all juries) so now the decision is taken. 1st option has 3 votes and second option has 1 vote. After discussion, we come to the solution that, “Life is matter of choices. Destiny has put you in the situation where there are very few choices available in front of you. You had chosen the best according to your self-conscious. So we are sending you to heaven. Enjoy.”

Me: (Eyes full of tears) thank you juries. Even if I haven’t believed in judiciary system on Earth, but you guys failed me. My faith in judiciary system is restored now. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for your kind decision.”

Child trafficking and prostitution #Vote4children

Children security:

Today, I have had participated in the journalism based competition 'The Mighty Pen' in our Cultural festival-Spring Fest.(IIT-Kharagpur). The topic was child labour. The more and more I researched about this topic, I had discovered the more and more ugly and cruel nature of human beings. The conditions we have seen in the movie Slumdog Millionaire that has pointed out some of the things like child trafficking, child beggars and child prostitutes controlled by organised mafia gangs. But the actual conditions are even worse.

These trafficked children are often starved so that they will look gaunt and cry and thereby eliciting more sympathy and donations from tourists. And since disable child beggars get more money than healthier ones, criminal groups often increase their profit by cutting out a child’s eye, scaring his face with acids and amputating a limb for a begging mafia at $200 a pop. To prevent the children from running away, traffickers often keep kids addicted to drugs. When trafficked children get too old to beg effectively they often graduate into forced prostitution, the black organ trade or other gruesome facts.

In India, children’s’ vulnerability and exposure to violations of their protection rights remains spread and multiple in nature. Existing studies shows that 40% of women sex workers enter into prostitution before the age of 18. I India, there is social issue going on that no one is really talking about. The media sweeps this issue under the table because of it’s offensive nature and most people do not want to deal with the feelings and ugly nature that this topic provokes .I am speaking about child prostitution. Parents who are uneducated and poor are selling their children into the child pornography industry, just so they can keep the roof over the heads.

Then question arises- "Why children"? Why children are needed in prostitution and pornography industry ?
There is the myth that a man can get rid himself of sexually transmitted diseases if he sleeps with a virgin, hence the fear of HIV/AIDS has increased the demand for virgin and children.


Our society has not only turned a blind eye to minor girls being enticed into prostitution but also is directly responsible for continues growth of child prostitution. First the demand for child prostitutes by failing to provide adequate facilities to orphan and destitute children.

I have discussed 2 issues but there are number of children who are working in hazardous industries like Beedi and cigarette, diamond, firecracker industries. What about their security?


We have accepted the world where children from all ages from 5 year to 15 year are forced to take up the labour in order to survive. We have accepted and allowed ourselves to have created the condition which forces children to place themselves in harmful working conditions just to see another day. Isn't that shameful for the country which claim to be world's largest democracy? Isn't that shameful for us-the urban educated people who dream to live in foreign countries?

Rivaldo... you have catched our pulse!!

Today there was a comedy show of Nitin Gupta(Rivaldo)- one of the India's best stand-up comedian and founder of Entertainment engineers, at IIT -Kharagpur. As many of you don't know about him much, so I am writing this blog. So lets start from his past;

How he choose to became a stand-up comedian?
While in final year of his chemical engineering at IIT -Bombay, he never wanted to get the daily routine job and to make his talent to certain bounds, still he took a job only to show his parents that he can get one if he want to. As most of the parents send their child in IITs to get them a better job and a better life, a secure future -the common middle class dream. He even taught for some time in coaching institute and write some scripts for daily soaps which were all flops before starting his our company.

In September 2009 while enjoying in Rendezvous, the cultural festival of IIT Delhi, Rivaldo made a performance of 20 minutes in the interval between the plays. Audience liked it and in October 2009,Engineers Entertainment was formalized. He made his first appearance in IITKgp with the help of his friend and played Love in December. Second show was in MNIT Jaipur and they did the same play. Gradually he presented the audience with a mixture of Love in December and stand-ups and in the first year he managed to get 13-14 shows. It was the play that got him popularity but soon he established himself as a stand-up comedian in the college circles.

EE was born with the vision of making Stand Up Comedy respectable in India. We believe one way to do it is when you talk ideas in your Stand Up. Comedy without ideas is like Fast Food. It’s tasty but lacking in Nutrition (food for thought) The problem with comedy is that it’s so easy to carried away by laughs. But that’s where the catch comes. The overall impact of the performance is not just a function of your laugh density. It’s also a function of how much people remember after a performance. Because people like to talk after a show. In my experience people tend to remember things which touch them at some level. Like with all the memories. You are more likely to remember a conversation you had with a girl you were in love with viz a viz a conversation with very interesting person from college. Getting laughs is the easier part. Capturing that emotionality in the humor is the difficult part, he said.

He always says, in college the motivation behind humor is girls, after graduation it was survival. We did a play called Love in December. Which was famous in college campuses. Had a student from IIT Kharagpur who was interested in doing plays there. We became friends, used to discuss scripts. It was him who helped organize a show in IIT Kharagpur on Oct 31, 2009 as a part of their Spring Fest. That was our first show outside our home campus IIT Bombay.

Enough about his past.

His videos  2G CWG and Soniaji, IAS durga, Coal Mates, Ted talk have been hugely appreciated by audience. now the question remains, even after so much success, why his audience is not that much as he deserve to be? The simple reason is- to understand his jokes and punches, you have to need certain level of knowledge. Most of the situations in our day to day life, he relates to science theories.

Best part about his show is- "courage". Courage to speak on the issues which everyone of us felt at some point, but due to social taboos, we could not speak  them in public. I really appreciate his courage to speak the topics like Gandhis', Hindu mythology, sex on a national platform. Why I am telling about courage is because we are living in so much sensitive country that we got offended by small small things.

His comedy has it's main focus on anomalies in our day-to-day life, political scenario, AD commercials, cricket, racism. Many things we do daily that we could not able to give reasons to them if asked. And that's where his comedy born.

I had watched all of his shows and videos, but what I surprisingly found is none the jokes in his previous performances has been repeated. and that's the beauty of his performance. You never get bored for a single minute in whole performance. Another good quality about him is his memory. In one joke, he was telling about how falsely we say that I proud to be Indian and told nonstop 30-40 foreign brands we use in our day to day life. He put it in such a way that, it was raining of claps before he even finishes the joke.

Another good think is- he made us to think about the issues with humor. Today's show was the best comedy show many of us has ever seen. Watch his show to laugh , to increase your blood circulation(as you will be clapping all the time), to increase our intellect, to get completely out of the world feeling for 2 hours and at last - to think about the things he wanted to convey.

The reasons behind AAP’s astonishing forward march

Here I am giving some points which I think has helped AAP to get such outstanding success and more than that, attention of all India in the very first election which other new parties (except Telgu Desam of N.T.Rama Rao) in history of India could not able to fetch.
So here are the reasons:


Joseph Gobble’s method:
If you repeat a lie often enough, people will eventually believe it, and you will even come to believe it yourself. In this case it was not lie, but people have tendency that they don’t want to waste their vote, and give their vote to the one who they think surely going to win. From the 2 months before the election, AAP has created environment that they are going to win 40 seats.


Cloud computing:
Take cloud computing for instance. AAP used a solution called ‘VoiceTree’ which took away the need to set up a massive call centre to make calls to citizens. Remember, political parties have long used recorded messages through cold calls, but that is mechanical and perhaps counter-productive. What VoiceTree did was provide the AAP with the power to make any person, anywhere in the world, a volunteer for the party at a very low cost. A volunteer called a toll-free central number and from there, he/she was connected to a random Delhi number. Once connected, the volunteer could make a personalised sales pitch for AAP, a far more powerful spiel than a canned message. And once made, the called number would be moved to a called database so that every volunteer had a fresh citizen to approach.


Social media:
The power of social media has also changed the game. The AAP no longer needed to go after mainstream media to ensure they carried AAP's viewpoints. The power of social media ensured that mainstream media had to go after AAP or risk losing relevance.


Clear manifesto:
Everyone who knows AAP has their manifesto on mouth. In every interview, they have repeated that. Even after 65 years of independence, others are promising roads, water, electricity and other basic needs. Not only this but AAP came up with distribution of power to people through their new methods – Mohhalla Sabha, Gram sabha in Delhi’s villages, Lokpal bill within 15 days after coming to power, Reduction of electricity bill to 50%, Citizen security forces, Regulations of donations in private schools and colleges.


Great team:
Party has really good team of educated members from all fields (not those who have politics as single source of income). Party has projected Arvind Kejriwal as their face of the election but others too had great influence in society. Unlike the case of Loksatta Party of Dr. JP Narayan (whose foundation based on nearly same principles as AAP) is only known face of the party. So AAP has able show basic democratic values in party through their action.

There are many other reasons, but these are I find important.

My loving nest - Chalisgaon

Chalisgaon...My town.

I am compelled to write this blog because I am tired of people asking me the same question over and over again. "Isn't the name of your town weird?". First of all I want to clear that it is a town, not a village. As most of you ask me that, "gaon means you live in a village?"

So here is the story of how the name Chalisgaon came into existence:

So folks, once upon a time, there was a king. He had a huge empire and he was very fond of going to the forest for hunting. Once he had gone to the forest and saw a little deer. As soon as he pulled out his arrow and aimed at him, the deer started running. King followed him on his horse for a very long time, but couldn't catch the deer. While catching the deer, king enters in the deep forest and forgets his route.

It was the time of hot summer and after the long chasing the deer, the king became thirsty. He tried to find the river or any water source but to no avail. After a few hours, when the king had almost died, a shepherd came and gave him the water and food. He took him to his hut and coddled the king. By his service and nursing, the king got happy and offers him the 40 villages (40 gaon) and asks him to come to his palace whenever he wants to take his gift. After that king went back to his palace.

After going to the palace, he thought, that, the shepherd only give him some water and food and he foolishly offered him forty villages. He called his prime adviser and told him the story. On that, the prime adviser told him the idea - "pick forty families from forty different villages and form a new village and name it as Chalisgaon. By doing this, you will fulfill your promise as well as the shepherd would not get forty villages"

That is the story of how the name Chalisgaon came into existence...Surely, I don't vouch for the authenticity of the story.

Tourist attraction:

The world famous mathematician and philosopher Bhaskaracharya (inventor of zero) is from Challisgaon. There is the place Patnadevi(15 km from Chalisgaon) where this great mathematician had lived.

Patnadevi is surrounded by the dense vegetation of the Gautala Outram Ghat Wildlife Sanctuary. During the Monsoons the Dhawaltirtha Waterfall is active in the mountains.

Pitalkhora caves:

These are an early Buddhist site consisting of 14 rock-cut cave monuments which date back to the third century BCE, making them one of the earliest examples of rock-cut architecture in India. The cliff has fallen away dramatically since antiquity, and most of the carvings that existed on the face of the cliff fell with it. The quality of the stone there was not sutaible for making caves so artists preferd to carve at Ellora.

The sculptural representations here are similar to that of found in the stupas of Sanchi, Karla, Nasik, of the same period. As these Caves are carved in somewhat softer and fragile rock, here one can also see examples of ‘ancient conservation’. A feature which needs special mention is the very ingenious arrangement of diverting water that found its way into the cave through cracks; long tunnel like openings were bored into the ceilings and the water was allowed to flow fully into the cave underneath the floor in concealed drain channel cut to lead the water outside near the cave entrance (Cave 4).

Book review: My Country, My Life

Few days ago during holidays, I have completed reading a very nice book named My Country My Life, an auto-biography of Mr. Lal Krishna Advani. It is not just auto-biography but the complete political history of India after independence. To read this book, it is not necessary that you are a follower of Mr. Advani or in unison with the agenda of BJP. Today, there are very few leaders who are active in politics in all those years after independence at national level. He is one of them. After reading this book, some of my own misconceptions have been addressed, some of my opinions, changed. 

In Ayodhya Andolan chapter and his controversial speech in Pakistan about Jeenah as a secular legend, I think he tried to defend himself. In Pakistan, they differentiate between the people who migrated from India to Pakistan and native Pakistanis. but I feel proud when I see that India is the only place which dissolves all the streams in one single "Hindi" flow. Advani, Ram Jethmalani, Deelip Kumar, Yash Chopra, Gulzar, these all famous personalities migrated in in India after partition. 

It is a very nice book to know the history of  BJP, Congress, Communists. Also it tells great information about the partition, the emergency period, riots in Delhi after the assassination of  Mrs. Indira Gandhi, riots in Godhra, Bofors scandal, his rath-yatras, role of RSS(Rashrtiya Swayamsevak Sangh) in politics, Kargil war and lots more. The book has also discussed about the national problems like terrorist attacks, Naxalites and Maoist, Kashmir issue. It is a must read for those who want to discover India.

The freedom of expression is regarded s the first condition of liberty. But now-a-days questions are raised that is the freedom of speech absolute? Or there are some conditions when one’s freedom of expression is restricted? The many cases like Shalin Dhada case, Aseem Trivedi case throw a harsh light on India’s new Information Technology Act that governs electronic speech. Freedom of speech and expression means the right to express one’s own convictions and opinions freely by words of mouth, writing, painting and pictures or by any other modes. In modern time, it is widely accepted that the right to freedom of expression is the essence of the free society and it must be safeguarded at all times. But the question is ‘How far does it go?’ and ‘How far should it go?’
